LG Windows Mobile 7 phone

Engadget.com has first-hand photos of a new LG touch screen phone that is powered by Windows Mobile 7. This is probably the first phone that runs on Windows Mobile 7, the long-awaited Windows mobile operating system that rivals Google’s Android and iPhone. There is no detail information about this LG phone’s specifications. What we know is it has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and a 5-MP digital camera with LED flash. Like what Microsoft showed in the WMC 2010 in Barcelona, this LG phone has XBOX live, Zune player, Windows Marketplace, Office Mobile with newly added SharePoint Workspace Mobile, and “Live Titles” that combine phone log, SNS, SMS, Emails, pictures, Xbox Live, and music into one app. This LG phone will be officially launched in September 2010.

PocketGear Bought Handango to Create a Big App Store

PocketGear today announced that they had bought Handango, creating the world’s largest cross-platform mobile app store. The new app store will have 140,000 free and paid apps for Android, Symbian, BlackBerry, Palm, Linux and Java phones.

“Our vision is to facilitate an open app-store ecosystem that supports every mobile device, every application, and every carrier network globally,” PocketGear chief executive Jud Bowman said in a statement.

“By combining the two largest independent app-store companies, we’re creating significantly more scale and value for all the stakeholders in the open app-store ecosystem.”

PocketGear’s move is widely viewed as risky as currently there are too many app stores in the market, and most of the major operating system has their own Apps stores. Users tend to download apps from the default “app store” application loaded on their phone. Currently, the world’s largest mobile app store is Apple’s iPhone, which has about 150, 000 apps. Its rival, Android, has about 20, 000 apps.

PockeGear didn’t disclose how much it pay for Handango.

Palm, the pioneer of PDA phone, today said that its sales are not going as well as “expected”. The company lowered its third quarter financial guidance and blamed that consumer adoption of its products is “taking longer than expected”. Palm expected its Q3 revenues to be $300m, about the same as Q2 before the Pre Plus and Pixi Plus launched on Verizon.
